OVERVIEW-
of the Pier Project
|
|||||
|
The future of tourism in the Canterbury District i.e. (Canterbury, Herne Bay and Whitstable) depends on many factors not least - the development of Herne Bay's visual and economic improvement. | ||||
| . | |||||
| Economic Development: various initiatives have been identified throughout the district (as reported in Canterbury City Council's Management Service Review) some of which are ambitious targets and would be reliant to great extent - on external funding. | |||||
| . | |||||
| One
very ambitious target is that of rebuilding 'The Herne Bay Pier'. HBL has applied for external funding from various sources (with some success to reach this stage) and recently through Kent County Council, i.e. 'Interreg 111A' Euro Funding, we are awaiting a response. |

| . | |||||
| Some of the answers to questions asked in the 'Interreg 111A Project Enquiry Pro-forma' were as follows. If any person/club/ entrepreneur on reading through this - has an interest in the Pier rebuilding and further useful input please e.mail or write to Jean Herwin (addresses below). | |||||

Aims
of Project
To develop the importance of Herne Bay's coastline, visually, historically, geographically and environmentally. To strengthen the local economy; to open the opportunity to exchange knowledge with French towns of similar interests. Creating closer communication between us and the neighbouring coast line of France through sea to shore activity, thus bringing about the greatest impact in beneficial terms for residents, commercial enterprise and subsequently overseas visitors. |
