1871 Improvement Commissioners granted 99 year lease of Pier Approach to a new Pier Company
1873 New short iron Pier (320 feet in length) built to design of Messrs Wilkinson and Smith

Mr. Henry C. Jones, Managing Director of Pier Company arrested for embezzling funds on behalf of the Pier from Holbourn Borough Council, of which he was Treasurer. He was jailed for five years and the Pier Company went into the hands of a Receiver.
