The
reinstatement of the historic ability of the pier head to accommodate
medium sized ferries and pleasure steamers will enable future use - as
a call-off point for cross channel services, potentially from as far north
as Zeeland in Holland, south to Dieppe or even Fecamp, France. An exchange
of technical expertise with Interreg partners will flourish. Paddle steamer
operators and Heritage authorities reveal a strong desire to see Herne
Bay Pier restored to enable a triangular heritage tour by steamer within
the Thames Estuary. This could be opened to France, and thus will be the
catalyst for the regeneration of Small Ports. |

Herne
Bay once again becomes a small important Port of Call; heralding Heritage
and Nature Conservation; giving improved public access. The District's
economy will lift, tourist industry will thrive, trade will increase.
Such a Project would act as a catalyst to further generate outside investment,
in all fields, thus creating employment opportunities, especially for
the young. Creative link to our French partners through shared opportunity
and communication. The Pier will create a regular Passenger Steamship
call, giving such Heritage companies a much needed middle base in Kent. |
